Artist’s book by Sol Lewitt

solauthor Emanuele de Donno, Giorgio Maffei publisher Viaindustriae publishing, 144 pp., 15.5 x 19.0 cm, 2009.

This elegantly designed catalog – published following an exhibition at the Galleria civica Arte Moderna in Spoleto, Italy – offers readers a fairly comprehensive survey of Sol Lewitt’s impressive archive of artist’s books. As one of the medium’s foremost pioneers and advocates, Lewitt created over seventy books and book projects, beginning with the 1967 Serial Project No. 1 (from Aspen magazine), and ending with Chicago (Morning Star Publications, 2002). This book reproduces covers and spreads from this massive oeuvre of artist’s books, almost all of which are now rarities. Critical observations from LeWitt himself are accompanied by essays from Giorgio Maffei, Emanuele De Donno, Didi Bozzini, Cecilia Metelli, and Marilena Bonomo
